During the mid-seventies and nineteen eighties, Paul Wookey was a well known and respected performer in Melbourne's acoustic/folk scene. paul's first recording, "Mountain Breakfast", released on the Troubador label in 1981, met with both industry and critical acclaim and resulted in the winning of a Gold Guitar at the Australian Country Music Awards in that year.

He has performed on radio, television and overseas and has both toured and played with many international visiting artists including Mick Jagger, Jimmy Witherspoon, John Hammond, Vince Gill, Jessie Winchester, Byron Berline, Ralph Mctell, Brownie McGhee, Charlie Mussellwhite, dan Crary, Albert Lee and Mickey Newbury. Paul's repetoire has been drawn largely from his love of 20th century American folk, blues and country music's influences of which are highly evident in his songwriting style. Lately, however, his interest is in applying what he has learned to finding a "different Australian voice".
