Reviews For Catherine Lambert
JAZZ pianist Kym Purling and vocalist Catherine Lambert attempt to display the vital tension which enhances musical verve. They have revised jazz standards, such as Makin' Whoopee and Let's Do It, and also will play originals such as Don't Miss You Much, from the Round Records disc Catherine Lambert and the Kym Purling Trio. This will be a rare opportunity to catch one of Adelaide's coolest combos before Purling heads to Vietnam, in July, to take on a three-month performing-arts residency. His album, Trio Juice, is presently available on Round Records. The pair already is working on its next collaboration; an early July trip to London where they will meet up with Adelaide bassist James Clark and perform on Ronnie Scott's famed radio show. They also will negotiate European distribution for their CDs.

CATHERINE LAMBERT with the Kym Purling Trio (Round Records): After so many years of singing, Catherine Lambert has finally found her own true voice. On this disc, largely a collection of classic Cole Porter and Gershwin songs, the Adelaide songbird sounds relaxed and confident, tackling the tunes with a cool, seductive air. Buoyed by the fresh, airy arrangements of Kym Purling's keyboard-driven trio, this set is strong enough to be these performers' springboard to even greater success.
